The 2021 RAM 1500 earns up to 20 mpg city/25 mpg highway, when equipped with its 3.6L V6 Pentastar engine, eTorque capability, and rear-wheel drive. Impressive fuel economy is a staple for the entire lineup, even for models with 4×4. Read on to explore the new RAM 1500 gas mileage ratings, and see which configuration is right for you.

RAM 1500 MPG Ratings by Engine

The 2021 RAM 1500 engines offer varying mpg ratings. No matter which one you choose, you’ll enjoy surprisingly high fuel economy:

3.0L EcoDiesel V6 Engine:

  • 23 mpg city / 33 mpg highway (2WD)
  • 21 mpg city / 29 mpg highway (4WD)

3.6L Pentastar® V6 Engine w/ eTorque:

  • 20 mpg city / 26 mpg highway (2WD)
  • 19 mpg city / 24 mpg highway (4WD)

5.7L HEMI® V8 Engine w/ eTorque:

  • 17 mpg city / 23 mpg highway (2WD)
  • 15 mpg city / 22 mpg highway (4WD)

Supercharged 6.2L HEMI® V8 Engine:

  • 10 mpg city / 14 mpg highway (4WD)

More About the eTorque System

One system plays a key role in the RAM 1500’s ability to achieve such high mpg ratings — eTorque. Rather than using an alternator, RAM 1500 models with eTorque rely on a 48-volt belt-driven motor that’s powered by a battery. You might think a mild hybrid system would only be found in a hybrid or electric vehicle, but inside the RAM 1500, it delivers more torque and higher payload and towing capacities. What’s more, the higher fuel economy is an added benefit.

What Else Makes the RAM 1500 So Efficient?

In addition to the ones mentioned above, the following systems also work together to create the RAM 1500’s excellent fuel economy:

  • Transmission: The standard TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission configures its shift points to suit different driving conditions for greater fuel economy.
  • Design: The RAM 1500 features a higher hood and restyled roof to reduce its drag coefficient for improved fuel efficiency.
  • Active Air Dam: This class-exclusive air dam lowers when the vehicle reaches 30 mph, and is standard in the RAM 1500 Rebel and models with no air suspension system.
