2018 Jeep Compass vs 2018 Chevrolet Equinox near Spring, TX

Looking for the perfect crossover SUV among the large lineup can be challenging, and even stressful. That is why we are here to help! We have chosen the top two crossover SUVs in the segment, and we are going to pit them against one another and find out which one is best suited for you! These two SUVs are the 2018 Jeep Compass and the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox. The Jeep Compass was completely redesigned after last year, and so it comes into the 2018 model year unchanged, and as stylish as ever. This SUV offers you off-roading capabilities, a comfortable ride, and the latest in entertainment. The Chevrolet Equinox was completely redesigned for the 2018 model year, and is slightly smaller than the previous iteration, along with the overall weight being lighter. Both of these SUVs are off to a strong start, with the Compass taking a slight lead due to its off-roading prowess. Continue reading down below to learn who the winner is!

2018 Jeep Compass Power & Handling

There is one powerful engine that powers every 2018 Jeep Compass. This engine is a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder, which has the capability to produce up to 175 pound-feet of torque and 180 horsepower. If you choose the Sport trim or a 4WD Latitude, then you’ll be getting a six-speed manual transmission as standard. The rest of the models come with a six-speed automatic transmission, with the exception of most 4WD models that come with a nine-speed automatic transmission. Those automatic transmissions also come with a start/stop system that helps to cut the engine power at idle. Fuel economy is amazing with the Compass, getting you around 23/31 mpg with an FWD manual, and around 22/31 mpg with FWD automatic and 4WD manual. The towing capacity is around 2,000 pounds.

2018 Chevrolet Equinox Power & Handling

The Chevrolet Equinox comes with three engine options. The base engine is lacking in horsepower and engine displacement, as it is a turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-4 that produces 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque. Another engine that is available is a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4, creating 260 pound-feet of torque and 252 horsepower. The final engine is a turbocharged diesel 1.6-liter inline-4 that generates 240 lb-ft of torque and 137 horsepower. All of these engines work with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. They also usually come with a six-speed automatic transmission, although the 2.0-liter engine works with a nine-speed automatic transmission.

2018 Jeep Compass Features & Design

Paired with the powerful standard engine are four different trim levels. These trim levels give you the perfect amount of choice in order to find the Compass that fits you and your needs. The First trim, the Sport, comes with sixteen-inch wheels, Bluetooth connectivity, air-conditioning, a 6-speaker sound system, a Uconnect system with a five-inch touchscreen display, and a USB port. Another trim, known as the Limited, offers satellite radio, eighteen-inch wheels, a power driver seat, upgraded exterior trim, leather upholstery, automatic dual-zone climate control, remote start, heated front seats, an upgraded driver information display, an 8.5-inch Uconnect touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The off-roading specialist is the Trailhawk trim. This trim gives you a Selec-Terrain system to help with rocky surfaces and steep climbs, a hidden set of underbody protection shields, a unique front fascia, 17-inch wheels, a raised suspension, red tow hooks in the front and rear, a matte-black hood accent, and off-road oriented tires.

2018 Chevrolet Equinox Features & Design

Four trim levels come with the 2018 Equinox. The first of these four trims is the L. This trim will give you a rearview camera, Bluetooth, a driver information display, automatic headlights, a 6-speaker audio system, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, heated mirrors, height-adjustable front seats, 17-inch alloy wheels, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, a 7-inch touchscreen, LED daytime running lights, and a fuel-saving engine stop/start system. Another trim, the LT, gives you an 8-way power driver seat with 2-way lumbar adjustment, rear privacy glass, satellite radio, auxiliary rear-seat release levers, a leather-wrapped shift knob, and xenon headlights. The highest trim, the Premier, gives you fog lights, roof rails, driver-seat memory settings, wireless device charging, 18-inch wheels, chrome exterior trim, perforated leather upholstery, a hands-free liftgate, and auto-dimming mirrors.

Both of these crossover SUVs put up stiff competition, but the Chevrolet Equinox cannot compete with the off-roading capabilities of the 2018 Jeep Compass. Driving on the road is important, but what makes an SUV stand out is what it can do that its competitor can’t. The Compass has legendary Jeep engineering backing it up, and with the engine and four trim levels, it is a hard vehicle to beat.
