Are you looking for a pickup truck that offers style, comfort, and enough capability for day-to-day towing needs? In 2017, there are two great trucks that meet these needs, offering great style, modern amenities, and a powerful performance. These trucks, the RAM 1500 and Ford F-150, will appeal to many drivers but which one is best for you? For 2017, the RAM 1500 will gain a new eight-speed automatic transmission with each engine configuration and a shuffled range of standard features. The F-150 has received some upgrades, including a redesigned turbocharged V6 engine. To learn more about these two trucks, continue reading below!

2017 RAM 1500 Power & Handling

RAM has equipped their 1500 with the award-winning 3.6-liter V6 Pentastar engine, which is one of the most highly acclaimed engines on the market. This engine increases power and fuel economy, delivering 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. The standard eight-speed automatic transmission provides smooth shifting. Three drive systems are available, including standard rear-wheel drive and two optional four-wheel drive systems. Optional engines include the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 and a turbocharged 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6.

2017 Ford F-150 Power & Handling

The Ford F-150 is offered with four engines. The first engine, which comes standard, is a 3.5-liter V6. This engine can deliver 282 horsepower and 253 lb-ft of torque, and it is linked to a six-speed automatic transmission. Alternative engines include a 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged V6, a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6, and a 5.0-liter V8. Certain engines will qualify to equip a new ten-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, but the F-150 can instead be equipped with four-wheel drive.

2017 RAM 1500 Features & Design

The 1500 is a favorite among truck drivers for many reasons, but chief among them is that it is easy to customize. This allows truck drivers to create the perfect vehicle for their daily needs, making it a perfect option at the job site. Ten trim levels are offered with the 1500, but that is only the beginning since there are almost endless packages and standalone features offered. If you want a basic workhorse truck, we recommend the Tradesman trim, which adds a Class IV receiver hitch, a spray-in bedliner, a seven-pin wiring harness, a rear backlight, automatic headlights, 17-inch steel wheels, and a vinyl floor covering. Customers can choose between three cab sizes, two-door or four-door, along with a number of bed sizes. Optional features include chrome bed rails, a sunroof, heated rear seats, and a rear defroster.

2017 Ford F-150 Features & Design

The F-150 is only available in six primary trim levels. There are various bed configurations and packages offered, and the base trim is called the XL. It has a higher starting price than the Ram 1500, but it has similar standard features. The F-150 XL has vinyl flooring, automatic headlights, pre-wired trailer connections, a driver information display, and a four-speaker radio with an auxiliary jack. Optional features are typically grouped into packages, which are only available depending on which trim is chosen. For example, the XL is offered with a 101A package that adds features like power mirrors, cruise control, and a CD player.

If you want a truck that can perform on every level, we highly recommend the 2017 RAM 1500. It offers a wider availability of high-end features, and every trim is impressively equipped. The base engine is one of the best on the market, offering terrific power ratings and a refined ride quality. The Ford F-150 is a good truck but it has a less powerful standard engine, and is more expensive to customize.
