2017 Jeep Cherokee vs 2017 Honda CR-V near Spring, TX

Compact SUVs are highly desirable and if you’re looking for one, you’re sure to have heard of the Jeep Cherokee and the Honda CR-V. For 2017, the Jeep Cherokee received some tweaks to its standard features, giving you more value for your money. The Honda CR-V, however, was completely redesigned. The CR-V might be shiny and new, but we think in a lot of ways, the Jeep Cherokee still comes out on top when compared to the CR-V. Whether it’s the Cherokee’s strong engine options, trail-rated Trailhawk model, or wide assortment of standard features, the Cherokee offers something that appeals to everyone.

2017 Jeep Cherokee Power & Handling

There are two engine options available for the 2017 Jeep Cherokee. The base engine is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder. It generates a smooth 184 horsepower and 171 pound-feet of torque. More intriguing for the Cherokee is its available V6 engine, a rare find in the compact SUV class. This is a 3.2-liter V6 engine that creates a mind-blowing 271 horsepower and 239 pound-feet of torque. Fuel economy is nearly the same as that of the four-cylinder, thanks to a standard automatic engine start-stop system. In addition to quick acceleration and athletic handling, this engine can also tow a beefy 4,500 pounds. Regardless of your engine, every Cherokee is paired with a clean-shifting nine-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive and three four-wheel-drive systems-Jeep Active Drive I, Jeep Active Drive II, and Jeep Active Drive Lock-are available.

The CR-V also offers two engines. The base engine is a similar 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that achieves 184 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque. This engine is only standard on the first trim level; all other trim levels are paired with a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. This engine ups the ante a bit with 190 horsepower and 179 pound-feet of torque and slightly better fuel economy than the base engine. These engines are good options, however, they don’t come close to offering the same amount of power as the Cherokee’s available V6 engine. The CR-V is only rated to tow 1,500 pounds-just one-third of what the Cherokee can haul.

2017 Jeep Cherokee Features & Design

The Cherokee comes in five well-equipped trims for 2017: Sport, Latitude, Trailhawk, Limited, and Overland. The Cherokee lineup as a whole is elegant and graceful, while still holding true to the off-road capability of the rest of the Jeep lineup. The Sport includes a range of enjoyable features including remote keyless entry, cruise control, LED running lights and taillights, 17-inch wheels, complete Bluetooth connectivity, a 5-inch touchscreen interface, an audio system with six speakers, an aux input, and an SD card reader, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, and sliding and reclining rear seats.

2017 Honda CR-V Features & Design

The Honda CR-V’s 2017 lineup contains four trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, and Touring. The LX includes standard features such as LED running lights, an electronic parking brake, cruise control, climate control, a 5-inch display screen, and a four-speaker audio system with USB connectivity and Bluetooth. The LX is definitely a bit sparse and not up to par with other competitors. The 5-inch display screen is disappointing as it doesn’t feature touchscreen capabilities; in comparison, the 5-inch touchscreen within the Cherokee is advanced enough to recognize many forms of touch such as pinching and swiping. The four-speaker sound system is also unpleasant and weak, while the Cherokee’s six-speaker system offers a dynamic listening experience.

The 2017 Honda CR-V’s complete redesign has brought plentiful attention to it recently. It definitely features strong attributes, but the 2017 Jeep Cherokee still comes out on top. The Cherokee offers two strong powertrains, off-road and towing abilities, and ample standard features. The Jeep Cherokee is a fantastic compact SUV and if it sounds like the right fit for you, we’d love for you to give us a call, contact us below, or come by in person to take one for a test drive!
