2017 Dodge Challenger at Northwest Dodge for Houston, TX

The Dodge Challenger is a coveted car for most, plus it’s a notorious classic at the same time. It’s a jaw-dropping bull of design and capability in the powertrain area, especially so in 2017. The GT trim this year is the first American muscle car coupe with all-wheel drive, so it can maneuver deftly even in adverse road conditions! The 2017 version puts in a few new changes, like a new T/A model, Uconnect interfacing for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and an active electronic control exhaust system on V8 engine Challenger trims.

Under the Challenger’s Hood

The 2017 Dodge Challenger comes standard with a 3.6-liter V6 engine, which somehow curtails boisterous engine forces inside the cabin, despite the Challengers best accelerations. It will make 305 horsepower and 268 lb-ft of torque, and is paired up with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The next available engine is a 5.7-liter V8 engine that is affected by the transmission you pick, so it’s good to know cars a bit before getting behind this wheel. Those transmission choices are a choice between an 8-speed automatic or 6-speed manual. With the automatic transmission, it will get 372 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque, and the manual variant will make 375 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. Because of the raw power on display, the SRT trim also gets Drive Modes that are already set up for  Track, Sport, and Default, plus adds a Custom mode too. Another available bone-shaking engine is the 6.2-liter supercharged V8 Hellcat. This engine churns out 707 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. This version went 0-60 mph in the mid-3 second range with an 8-speed auto transmission (the TorqueFlite 8HP90), if that helps you picture what it can do better. Dodge also installed within the T/A 392 and Challenger SRT trims the largest front brake package they ever made (for US cars): 15.4-inch Brembo 2-piece rotors with six-piston calipers. All 2017 Dodge Challengers except the SRT Hellcat employ an electric power steering (EPS) with multi-mode assist. The SRT Hellcat uses a rack and pinion with hydraulic power assist and a fixed-displacement hydraulic power-steering pump, and basically it can justify this because it has a top speed of 199 mph!

Design of Dodge Challenger

The core trims for the 2017 Dodge Challenger are the R/T, SXT, SRT 392, R/T Scat Pack, and SRT Hellcat. These will also have a range of trim offshoots that will cater to certain interests in the market, like the AWD two-door that the GT trim is, for instance. All Challenger trims are possible to acquire with a sunroof, individual feature options, a navigation system, and group packages. The roomy interior also has a 6-speaker audio system, dual-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth, a USB port, and a 5-inch Uconnect touchscreen. The Challenger muscle-car exterior styling goes way back into the past with its split grille, functional power bulge hood, LED halo headlamps, and LED tail lamp designs. In the interior, there is a high-sill center console that some will remember from their youth and a driver-focused instrument panel that is available in your choice of 13 exterior colors! The SXT rocks a strong array of standard features that are not as nostalgic, like heated mirrors, keyless entry/ignition, 18-inch wheels, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The all-new, 4th-generation 8.4 inch Uconnect system is obtainable for all 2017 Dodge Challenger trims with a V8 engine and lets smartphone integration occur easily. New to the SRT Hellcat as well are “Air Catcher” headlamps and a Mopar cold-air induction system with a conical air filter for the engine.

Is there is a Shaker hood?

Yes! The 392 HEMI Scat Pack Shaker model places a functional Shaker hood around the engine top, so you can see it move when it revs!
